What Is UKMT?
The UKMT (UK Mathematics Trust) runs three annual mathematical challenges: Junior Mathematical Challenge (JMC) — Year 8 and below (25 MCQ, 60 min); Intermediate Mathematical Challenge (IMC) — Year 11 and below (25 MCQ, 60 min); Senior Mathematical Challenge (SMC) — Year 13 and below (25 MCQ, 90 min). Top scorers in each are invited to follow-on rounds: Junior/Intermediate Olympiad, Kangaroo, or BMO (from SMC).
- Who is it for?
- UK school students at any level — from Year 7 JMC preparation through Year 13 SMC and BMO qualification. Suitable for students aiming for Gold certificates and Olympiad invitations.
- How is it taught?
- Live 1-to-1 online classes with a verified Mathematics mentor. Your first session is a free trial that maps your level, then classes follow a personal plan. From $15/hour.

What You'll Cover
Find the right UKMT preparation
UKMT runs a different paper for every school year. Pick the line below that matches your child and we will start from that exact round.
My child is in Year 7–8
Start with the Junior Mathematical Challenge, then the Junior Kangaroo or Junior Mathematical Olympiad on invitation.
My child is in Year 9–11
The Intermediate Mathematical Challenge leads to Grey or Pink Kangaroo, or to the Cayley, Hamilton and Maclaurin olympiads by year group.
My child is in Year 12–13
The Senior Mathematical Challenge is the gateway to the Senior Kangaroo and to BMO1 and BMO2 proof-based rounds.
My child has an invitation round coming up
Kangaroo and olympiad invitation rounds need different skills from the challenge paper — timing and elimination for Kangaroo, full written proof for the olympiads.
My child is aiming for a Gold certificate
Gold-level scores come from accuracy on the first fifteen questions and a method for the final ten, where negative marking applies.
We're looking at the girls' and team competitions
UKMT also runs the Mathematical Olympiad and Challenge for Girls and the team challenges for squads of four.
